A business owner in the small town of Burrton, Kansas approached the studio to design a prototype home that could be built on several vacant lots in the community to address a workforce housing shortage. Without an active non-profit developer in the community, the project would be self-developed with a local GC and local subcontractors pitching in their work at cost. The project would be a 3-bed, 2-bath house that featured a clerestory as a prominent design feature and daylighting strategy.
